But the incredible thing about Star Wars is that its chock full of expanded universe content that never ceases to keep us interested.
Expanded Universe (EU) refers to anything outside of the official movies and television series. Fans from around the globe have contributed to this expanded canon for decades, resulting in a set of lore on every character mentioned in the official series. Believe us; there’s a lot to sift through!
Here are our top three coolest lightsaber battles in the EU.
- Grievous vs. Six Jedi Fighters
Popularized in the 2003 animated Clone Wars movie, this short but impressive duel took place during the last stand of the Battle of Hypori. This was the first public appearance of the General Grievous, the cyborg leader wielding his four sabers with wit and power.
Grievous proved far more powerful than the Jedi forces, killing Jedis Sha’gi and Tarr Seirr and disarming Aayla Secura, K’Kruhk, Shaak Ti, and even Ki Adi Mundi. This is an impressive and utterly gruesome encounter you just can’t skip.
- Bane vs. Zannah
Dark Lords Bane and Zannah are some of the strongest Sith in history. Born on Somov Rit, Zannah witnessed a close friend haplessly murdered by Jedi scouts. She gave into the dark side and slaughtered all the Jedi present, attracting the attention of the powerful Dark Lord Bane.
Under his tutelage, Zannah grew in power until she matched the strength of her Master. Using ancient Sith magic against Bane during their final lightsaber battle on Ambria, Zannah defeated her Master and rose to become the new Dark Lord of the Sith. Impressive, huh?
- Mara Jade vs. Caedus
Mara Jade Skywalker was the wife of famous Jedi hero Luke Skywalker. Jacen Solo, son of Han and Leia Solo, was a dark-force user that became known as Darth Caedus in his later years. The aunt and nephew duo were thick as thieves, up to the point that Mara discovered her nephew’s treacherous ways.
The two fought on the plant of Hapes, each one trying to convert the other to their own philosophy of life. The battle seemed all but won until Mara was mortally wounded from a poison dart, ending the fight. This emotional and gripping battle is one you can’t afford to miss.
